Stan Whinnery

Stan Whinnery is the founder, owner, and chief operator of Whinnery Construction, Inc.  Whinnery Construction has been in business since 1990 serving the state, federal, and private sector.  Stream restoration, pond and lake construction, fencing, mining, logging, residential development, road construction, mine reclamation, wetland creation, fire mitigation and supression, water and sewer lines, haying, and ranching and fishery habitat eveloping are among the many things that Stan Whinnery has extensive knowledge and skill. Developing and implementing his clients dreams and wishes is a passion.

Stan is a 5th generation rancher whose family homesteaded in the San Juans over 150 years ago.  The family ranch is still owned and operated by Stan and his family.  The cattle and hay operation continues to be dependent on the original flood irrigation all done by hand with water rights dating back to 1898. Water and water rights is very personal to Stan and he believes in the struggles with supply and demand and how it effects all those up and down stream.  Conservation, natural resources, and  sustainabilty is what drives Stan to create and develop river, ranch and forestry projects with beauty and long lasting results.

Developing ranches for the clients needs whether it is a high end show ranch with guided fishing expeditions, cattle operation ranches, or the nature lovers guest ranch, Stan knows how to incorporate function and beauty to each ranchers needs.  Landscaping, bridge constructing, creating fish habitats, rangeland habitats, livestock BMP’s, and maximizing crop production while reducing soil erosion and water consumption are all vital elements in ranching success and sustainability.  Stan has a wealth of knowledge in government regulations and acquiring permits.  Every ranch is unique and special requiring careful thought and planning for purpose, enjoyment, and beauty.

River restoration, fish habitat, and bank stabilization using native materials and creativity is the most rewarding work Stan does.  His vision for forgotten rivers to make them thrive again with vegetation, fish, and wildlife is unprecedented.  His heritage and respect for the land give Stan a unique perspective on what should be at the heart of any river restoration, life and viability for long term sustainability.  Stan has restored and built over 94,250 continuous feet of river projects.
